Throughout my life, I have often noticed that many people view themselves as being somewhat less than amazing. Often times, some folks don’t seem to even like who they are. But in reality, we are all children of God and we are all the same, just unique in the way we look. In other words, we are ALL Rockstars, even if we don’t know it. I wrote Rockstar as a reminder to everyone on this planet that they are a Rockstar.
So often we go through life and hardly ever get encouragement, support, or kind words tossed at us along the way. Instead, we are often ridiculed, put down, made fun of, rejected, told to talk to the hand, or just plain ignored. This is common on social media as well as in real life in our one-to-one relationships. Even our own family can sometimes be hard on us or not give us any attention. The truth is, you are a Rockstar, even if you don’t know it and my song was written to remind you of this. While it may be sung as a love story between my wife and I, it applies to you and everyone else in this world. “You’re a Rockstar, yeah baby!”
I wrote this song and The Magic Man and I put it together at our Hippie Hut Studios in North Palm Beach. The message is about loving yourself and everyone else because we are all Rockstars. When the song was nearly complete, I shared it with my wife, Mrs. Hippie, one night when we were sippin’ a few cold ones in our Tiki Hut. She loved the song but said, “I have a great idea for an addition to the chorus.” I said, “Let me hear it,” so I played the song again and she sang back up vocals to the chorus—and I was blown away! Her voice is amazing and for this particular song it was off the charts! I was so impressed I wrote down the additional lyrics she was proposing so I wouldn’t forget them.
The next day, Mrs. Hippie showed up at Hippie Hut Studios to lay down the additional vocals over the chorus. I had the lyrics queued up in the tracking room and the mic on so we could get right down the business. Long story short, Mrs. Hippie’s added vocals to Rockstar made that song a major hit! Without her vocals, it was missing something, she recognized this and jumped in with her 2 cents! She was right as you will see when you listen to her vocals in that song! She really is a Rockstar—and so are you! You’re a Rockstar…yeah baby…
Peace and love
The G.O.P.
ROCKSTAR
By The G.O.P.
Ever wonder what’s goin’ on
Why you’re here
and why you love this song
Born with no name
And no claim to fame
We’re all just the same
Until we play the game
Let it all go
‘Cause I know ya don’t know…
CHORUS
YOU’RE A ROCKSTAR!
Yeah baby…
YOU’RE A ROCKSTAR!
Yeah baby…
YOU’RE A ROCKSTAR!
Yeah baby…
YOU’RE A ROCKSTAR!
Yeah baby…
Love by design
Peace is your sign
You’re a Rockstar!
Yeah baby…
Don’t swim in the soup
Or hang with the group
Don’t climb no ladders
Love is all that matters
Let it all go
